From Idea To Hoodie

A visual case study showing how I explored product choice, typography, and final design direction for a faith-based hoodie concept.

The idea behind the brand.

My husband and I started this project with a simple idea: to create a hoodie that BYU-Idaho students would genuinely want to wear in everyday life. We were inspired by the Rexburg, Idaho community and the lifestyle that comes with being a student here. We wanted the brand to reflect that feeling of belonging by creating something simple, comfortable, and meaningful.

More than just clothing, we wanted it to feel connected to the faith-centered community that makes Rexburg and BYU-Idaho unique.

Finding The Right Hoodie

One important part of the project was finding the right hoodie supplier.

First, we found a blank clothing supplier that sent us a free black sample to try. However, we did not like it because it felt more like a sweater, which did not match the style we wanted. After that, we ordered our first gray hoodie, since gray was one of our main brand colors, but it arrived with a strange yellowish tone. That was when we realized the quality was not what we were looking for.

Then we finally found the right supplier that offered both the hoodie style and the better-quality colors we wanted for the brand!

The Design Process

After choosing the hoodie, we started testing design ideas to heat press onto it.

We chose our favorite scripture first, and from there we played with different typography, layouts, and design options until we found the right one. Our goal was to keep it simple but meaningful, so the final design felt clean, and connected well with the brand. It also matched the style of the brand logo, which helped everything feel more unified.

The final result came together through a lot of testing, and small refinements. By focusing on our vision from the beginning, we were able to create a hoodie that felt true to our objectives: simple, meaningful, and connected to the BYU-Idaho and Rexburg community.

Every part of the process, from choosing the right hoodie to developing the final graphic, helped bring the brand to life!
